Montgomery, Alabama, police said Friday that a juvenile has been arrested in Saturday night’s deadly shooting as public events were being held downtown.
Two people — a woman and a teenage boy — were killed, and 12 others were shot and wounded in the gunfire that occurred around 11:30 p.m., officials have said.
The police department did not identify the juvenile boy or release his age. He was arrested Friday on one count of capital murder, nine counts of first-degree assault and three counts of second-degree assault, the department said in the caption of a video posted to Facebook.
Authorities have identified the two people fatally shot as 17-year-old Jeremiah Morris and a 43-year-old Shalanda Williams.
There was more than one shooter, Montgomery Police Chief Jim Graboys told reporters after the incident.
“This was two parties involved that were basically shooting at each other in the middle of a crowd,” he said at the time.
The investigation is ongoing and the police department said it expects to make more arrests, NBC affiliate WSFA of Montgomery reported Friday.
