The Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge the huge overlap between hunting and gun rights, even if your average Fudd forgets that.
In Massachusetts, where gun rights go to die despite the American Revolution sparking off there because of attempted gun control, there’s also a weird law against hunting on Sunday.
I mean, I get that the state was founded by Puritans, and they had peculiar ideas of what was acceptable and what wasn’t compared to modern folks, but the fact that such a law is still around here in 2026 is just strange.
Luckily, in a rare bit of good news, an effort to end that ban is seeing some movement in the legislature.
Last week, the Governor’s office introduced an addition to the supplemental budget that would repeal the ban on Sunday hunting in Massachusetts as well as expand access to archery hunting opportunities. Please take a moment to click the TAKE ACTION button below to contact your representatives and respectfully ask them to SUPPORT these sections of the Supplemental Budget.
Honestly, while expanding archery hunting opportunities and repealing a Sunday hunting ban are good things, it’s still insane that the latter wasn’t addressed decades ago.
I’m from the Deep South, where blue laws are still a thing. I’ve dealt with no liquor sales on Sunday most of my life, though that’s slowly coming to an end. I’ve seen other blue laws from across the South, and I’ve always found them stupid, if for no other reason than not every faith recognizes Sunday as the sabbath.
While my father refused to hunt on Sundays because of his own upbringing as a preacher’s kid, the idea of it being banned anywhere just seemed insane to me.
Now that it seems Massachusetts Democrats are, for once, doing something that doesn’t completely and totally suck for people who use guns lawfully, this might finally come to an end.
It would be even better if this were the start of good things for gun owners in the state, but it’s not. This is a one-and-done. If this passes, it will be the totality of the good news, at least for several years. The inclusion of archery hunting in the effort tells you why. Hunting isn’t the problem for Massachusetts anti-gunners. It’s the guns. They want to push people to use archery, and they’re willing to expand access and opportunities to facilitate that, likely so they can turn around later and come after the hunting rifles and shotguns.
Though, admittedly, that’s just speculation on my part.
As it stands, this is good news. If it stays just here or expands gun rights down the road, it’s still good news.
If my more paranoid thoughts are right, though, well, we all know what it is then.
Unfortunately, only time will tell which it is. In the meantime, advocates in the state need to dig in and fight everything else coming down the line, because they won’t jump to hunting guns in the near future. They have to set the stage for it first, and they haven’t quite managed to get that far.
Thankfully.

The cost guidance is better than expected. If they deliver, the stock could rerate.
