Playground Games releases an extended 30-minute gameplay demo of Fable, showcasing everything from the social sim elements to the combat.
Playground Games has delivered one of the most extensive looks at the upcoming Fable reboot, uploading a 30-minute extended demo video that dives into just about everything the fantasy RPG has to offer. Fable may have skipped its originally planned 2026 release, but in its absence, Playground Games has given fans plenty to explore as it marches toward launch.
The Xbox Game Showcase for 2026 had a big Fable presence, giving fans plenty to sink their teeth into as they await its new February 2027 release date. One of the biggest reveals of all was that Fable‘s main villain is none other than MCU star Hayley Atwell, now playing a a character who thinks they’re the hero of the story. What’s more, pre-orders for the game are now live, with a very intricate-looking collector’s edition selling at $199.99 USD. However, Playground wasn’t finished delivering its Fable news after the Xbox Showcase was done.
30-Minute Fable Demo Showcases a Little Bit of Everything from the Upcoming RPG
Coming hot off the heels of its two Xbox Games Showcase trailers, Playground Games has given fans a massive look at what’s coming next year with Fable‘s new 30-minute extended gameplay demo. The trailer plops viewers straight into the shoes of The Hero of Briar Hill as they explore Albion and almost immediately start a dialogue with a talking pig whose fate the Hero gets to decide. Most of the gameplay demo showcases tons of NPC interactions, showing that every character is unique and has their own thoughts and feelings about the Hero. Later on, the demo showed some of the romance in the game before the main character picked a fight in the middle of town. Fans of the franchise may feel that this is all reminiscent of classic Fable games.
From the 30 minutes spent inside of Playground Games’ vision for the world of Albion, it’s clear that the DNA of the Fable franchise is still there. The staple social simulation elements seem to have deepened with more dynamic elements, such as characters who value ambition taking a liking to the Hero if they are a savvy businessperson, and characters reacting differently to the choices and moral decisions the player makes throughout the game. Not to mention the very British charm and whimsical tone that are the soul of the Fable series.
