I’ve been a fan of Brandon Herrera’s YouTube channel for years. I’ve been a fan of his podcast Unsubscribe for much less time, but still for a good little bit at this point. I won’t say that I know Herrera, of course, because parasocial relationships aren’t relationships, but I’ve seen him for long enough to know a few things.
One is that, two years ago, Rep. Tony Gonzales said a lot of things about Herrera that simply weren’t true, took a lot of things out of context to make him look bad, and still barely got past him in the primary.
Now that Gonzales is out of the race, it’s all Brandon now.
Unfortunately, Tony’s lies two years ago are already resurfacing to attack Herrera.
Meanwhile, across the state, Brandon Herrera, a gun-rights YouTuber and firearms manufacturer whose videos have included reviews of Nazi weapons and recreations of Hitler’s suicide, will advance to a runoff in his own GOP congressional primary against the 23rd district’s scandal-plagued incumbent, Rep. Tony Gonzales.
Neither candidate took over 50% of the vote in the West Texas district, though Herrera had secured around 1,000 more votes than Gonzales as of Wednesday morning, with 94% of total votes tallied. The runoff will be held on May 26.
…
Since that loss, Herrera’s YouTube persona “The AK Guy”, whose output had already included a 2022 video that called Nazi weaponry “the original ghetto blaster”, uploaded a 2025 video about Hitler’s gun, replete with jokes about Nazis and the far right.
Of course, Herrera engages in a lot of dark humor because, well, it’s funny. I’ve seen these videos, for the record, and guess what? He never says anything that endorses the Nazi ideology. Hell, his grandmother grew up in Hitler’s Germany, but happily married an American serviceman and came to the United States.
Yeah, the jokes are dark, and some might consider them tasteless, but tasteless jokes aren’t the same thing as sharing an ideology with the Nazis.
Two years ago, Gonzales actually said Brandon was a confirmed neo-Nazi and used these same talking points to “prove” it. Now, the leftist Jerusalem Post is repeating the same garbage.
For what it’s also worth, the video recreating Hitler’s suicide was part of a series that looks at world leader assassinations. He’s looked at the attempts on both Reagan’s and Trump’s lives, the assassination of Shinzo Abe–he got demonitized for that video, by the way–the JFK assassination, and the Lincoln assassination.
Including Hitler in that, just to see what happened when Hitler did the best thing for humanity he ever could have, was just about what was interesting to the viewers. The inclusion had nothing to do with ideology, but the Post here figures they can smear Herrera just like Gonzales did two years ago.
Like it or not, the Nazis existed, and their guns influenced a lot of modern firearms. Herrera looking at these guns, talking about how they worked, and what they were capable of is nothing more than providing information on historic firearms, which he’s done for not just German weapons, but Soviet and American firearms as well.
Stop pretending he’s done anything nefarious by not ignoring a legitimate topic of interest. No one likes the Nazis, but the guns they used don’t have an ideology, and dark humor abounds.
Then again, like they say, dark humor is like food. Not everyone gets it.
Editor’s Note: The mainstream media continues to lie about gun owners and the Second Amendment.
