The Marine Corps laid out its fiscal 2027 enlistment bonuses in MARADMIN 405/26, signed Sept. 2. The incentives take effect Oct. 1 and run through Sept. 30, 2027.
For anyone considering a Marine contract this year, the useful part of the message is narrower than the headline. The Corps is paying $15,000 to new active-duty recruits who sign into two job families: electronics maintenance and cyber/crypto operations.
That matches the top figure in last year’s FY26 enlistment package. The money is not sitting on every contract; specifically, it is aimed at those technical lanes.
What the $15,000 Covers
Electronics maintenance includes electro-optical repair, ground radio and wideband gear, artillery electronics, aviation radio and radar, and tactical data systems. The jobs listed in the message are 2171, 2831, 2841, 2847, 2871, 2887, 5939, 5948, 5955, 5974, and 5979.
Cyber and crypto operations include cyberspace warfare operators, signals and electromagnetic warfare jobs, electronic intelligence analysts, cryptologic language analysts, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance systems engineers. That list is 1721, 2621, 2631, 2641, and 2651.
A recruit does not lock in one of those codes right at MEPS, but rather the contract is for a program category that groups related jobs. The Corps calls that a “Program Enlisted For.” Scores, citizenship, clearance, school seats, and classification decide which military occupational specialty the Marine actually gets inside that family.
The Statement of Understanding signed with the contract is the document that spells out those gates and what happens if someone washes out of one job on the list. The bonus follows the program and the contract terms.
Other Enlistment Bonuses
Shipping dates the Corps wants to fill can pay $5,000 or $10,000. Adding one year to the contract before shipping to boot camp can pay $7,000. Adding two years before shipping can pay $15,000. Those extra-year options are available across job programs, not only cyber and electronics.
Active-duty applicants are limited to one enlistment bonus. MARADMIN 405/26 states that directly. Taking the $15,000 cyber or electronics payout generally means forgoing the shipping money and the extra-year money. Taking a shipping bonus generally means forgoing the skill payout. The better choice depends on whether the applicant qualifies for one of the $15,000 job families, how soon that person can ship, and whether extra obligated service is worth more cash up front.
When the Money is Paid
The $15,000 skill bonuses are paid when a Marine joins the first permanent duty station. Shipping bonuses and extra-year bonuses are paid at the first School of Infantry check-in.
Failure to finish school, loss of qualification, or failure to complete the obligated service on the Statement of Understanding can trigger repayment of the unearned portion. The message lists death and combat-related disability as exceptions. Other exceptions of up to $10,000 can be granted under military pay rules.
What Reservists Can Receive
A qualifying six-year Selected Marine Corps Reserve contract can bring a $10,000 enlistment bonus after recruit training, Marine Combat Training, and MOS school. That bonus can be paired with a Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve kicker of up to $350 a month for 36 months. Funding is limited, and approvals stop when the allocation runs out.
Marines already in the force who want to affiliate with or stay in the Selected Marine Corps Reserve are looking at a separate program. The affiliation package announced in August can reach up to $40,000 for designated grades, jobs, and units.
Why These Fields are Still Getting Paid
The same week, the Corps confirmed a plan to add more than 6,500 billets for infantry, drones, air defense, and new digital work. It put recruiting money against the technical fields it has been trying to fill.
MARADMIN 405/26 says the bonus program is meant to push talent toward Force Design priorities and get more out of the first contract. The amounts can change during the year if recruiting conditions change. The current table should be printed with the contract.
What to Confirm Before a Contract is Signed
The questions that matter are basic. Which job family is on the contract? Whether the applicant’s scores and background qualify for the $15,000 skill bonus, or whether the live offer is a shipping or extra-year option. When that single bonus is paid. What repayment looks like if school or a clearance falls through. Those answers belong on the Statement of Understanding.
Fiscal 2027 still pays $15,000 to put new Marines into cyber and electronics maintenance programs. The contract is the only version of that offer that counts.

The cost guidance is better than expected. If they deliver, the stock could rerate.
