Compact rifles were everywhere at SHOT Show 2026, but Sturm, Ruger & Company showed up with something shooters really want. Ruger officially rolled out short-barreled rifle (SBR) versions of three familiar platforms: the PC Carbine, 10/22, and Ruger American Rifle Gen II.
These aren’t novelty builds. They’re trimmed-down versions of Ruger’s proven designs, built to stay balanced and controllable, especially once a suppressor enters the picture.
PC Carbine SBR
The PC Carbine SBR keeps Ruger’s popular pistol-caliber formula intact while shrinking the package around a 6.5-inch cold hammer-forged barrel, threaded 1/2×28. It wears a black synthetic chassis, an adjustable Magpul stock, and a free-float aluminum handguard with a removable M-LOK hand stop.
Magazine flexibility stays front and center. It ships with Ruger’s SR-Series / Security-9 magazine well installed, plus an extra insert that accepts Glock-pattern double-stack mags. One 17-round magazine is included.
10/22 SBRs
Ruger is offering two 10/22 SBR variants, both leaning into the platform’s reputation for simplicity and fun.
Both models feature:
- Reversible folding stocks with adjustable length of pull
- BX-Trigger
- Match bolt release
- Threaded 1/2×28 barrels
Model 33000 runs an 8-inch alloy steel barrel and adds a rear cleaning port for easier maintenance.
Model 33001 is a Takedown configuration with a 10-inch barrel tensioned inside an aluminum sleeve for added rigidity.

Ruger American Gen II SBR
On the bolt-gun side, Ruger trimmed down the American Rifle Gen II Patrol into a compact SBR with a 12.5-inch bull contour barrel, threaded 5/8×24. The black splatter stock offers solid grip without being overly aggressive.
The initial launch comes in .338 ARC, shipping with a 5-round AR-style magazine, with additional calibers planned.
The Big Picture
Ruger didn’t chase gimmicks here. These SBRs stick closely to what made the original rifles popular, just in shorter, more maneuverable configurations that play well with modern accessories.
