On Monday, I wrote about a mass shooting at a school in the Philippines. Most of the mass shootings I write about are, unfortunately, American, but when there is one outside of the United States, I try to talk about it if for no other reason than to remind people that these aren’t “uniquely American,” despite what some people claim.
When I wrote that, I didn’t think I’d turn around and have another high-profile shooting with three dead, this time in Montreal. There, a killer left three people dead, including one police officer.
The gunman who opened fire at a Montreal hotel on Monday and killed a police officer may have had ties to the misogynistic “incel” movement, though police have not publicly disclosed any information about the attacker’s motive.
The shooter, who was fatally shot by responding officers, released a “manifesto against women” whose contents were in keeping with the highly online subculture’s violent, sexist views, Radio Canada reports.
For the time being, authorities are considering the shooting in the city’s Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood a “domestic case” rather than a terrorism investigation, according to Québec’s Domestic Security Minister Ian Lafrenière.
“It was not considered as a possible terrorism attack, but everything has been put in place to make sure it was not linked to something else,” he told reporters on Monday.
A civilian was also killed during the incident, though investigators have not yet determined by whom.
Now, the civilian’s shooting was caught on video, and it sure looks like he wasn’t shot by the bad guy.

That’s right. It looks like he was killed by the female officer who seemed startled by his appearance. That startled reaction was right before the civilian went down, so it’s easy to see why a lot of people figure she killed an innocent who was just trying to get away from the danger.
Of course, Canada has enacted some pretty strict gun control in recent years, including an assault weapon ban and a freeze on handgun transfers. In this case, based on what I’m seeing in the video, it looks like the incel loser was using an SKS, which isn’t banned under the new laws. It probably will be after this, of course, because thousands of the guns weren’t used for anything but lawful purposes, but one guy who can’t get a girlfriend loses it and kills people, and suddenly everyone has to pay.
Understand that there’s no justification for something like this, but especially not because you can’t seem to get a girl. I get that it’s tough to be alone. I see it every day, and I understand it entirely, but murdering people whom you’ve never met and never did you a lick of harm is just evil. Just writing up about how women suck because they aren’t into you is bad enough, but this?
And yeah, I’m pissed that it’ll likely lead to more gun control up that way, and the SKS will likely get caught up in it this time, thus depriving people of yet another rifle they could use for self-defense.
Additionally, this shooting happened in an area with a lot of Hasidic Jews, though the authorities haven’t said antisemitism played a role in the shooting, but that wouldn’t surprise me. Hateful little twerps like this tend to extend that hate outward toward other groups beyond the girls who have no interest in them.
I’m sure we’re going to be hearing a lot more about this, and the ramifications for our Canadian friends, but the truth is that there shouldn’t be any that impact the average Canadian gun owner. They aren’t the ones who did anything wrong.
Not that such a fact will stop them.
Editor’s Note: The radical Left will stop at nothing to enact their radical gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
