There was no day in my life that quite left the impression that 9/11 did. Some are personally profound, obviously, such as my wedding day or the day my kids were born, but those joyous occasions are quite different from the horror of watching around 3,000 innocent people die due to a terrorist attack. Watching the whole thing unfold live on television was a different experience.
Almost immediately, we knew there would be memorials, and for a lot of people, those memorials are basically hallowed ground.
For at least one anti-gun activist, though, it’s nothing of the sort.
No, it’s apparently just an opportunity to push his anti-gun idiocy.
A gun control nut vandalized the 9/11 Memorial Reflecting Pool with red spray paint in a broad daylight political stunt.
Jonathan Andrew Tijerina, 31, was arrested and charged with criminal mischief and making graffiti for tagging a section of the North Tower reflecting pool with the name of his website Monday evening, police said, according to CBS News New York.
“Juststopkillingkids.com,” read the red spray-painted markings written across the names of dozens of victims engraved into the memorial at the footprint of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attack.
…
Tijerina’s website promoted “nonviolent civil resistance” as the answer to his campaign, saying it was the way to change laws and society.
Tijerina promoted his arrest as a win, attempting to get the attention of President Trump and NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
“On October 26, 2026, Jon Tijerina was arrested for spraying red paint on Freedom Tower in NYC. He is demanding that Trump and Mamdani enforce common-sense, highly popular demands with respect to guns such as Universal Background Checks and a National Gun Registry,” Tijerina’s organization wrote in a follow-up post.
You know, if I were someone who was on the fence about gun control, I’m pretty sure this would push me away from the anti-gun side more than anything else. There’s literally nothing to be accomplished by this other than allowing yourself to feel like you’re doing something other than pissing off millions of Americans on both sides of the political aisle.
Seriously, what kind of jackwagon thinks this is a good idea?
Tijerina and his buddies seem to believe that because some polling — questionable polling, for the record — overrides the Second Amendment. That’s not how rights work. If popularity were all that it took to invalidate someone’s rights, there wouldn’t be rights in the first place.
Regardless, even if you believe otherwise, can’t we agree that this is the kind of thing that crosses the line?
This is the 9/11 Memorial at Ground Zero, for crying out loud. It was the one time in my life when Left and Right mostly shut up and stopped harping at one another for a few days, and we came together as a country. It’s a feeling I absolutely crave, though I don’t want another event like that to trigger it.
In my not-so-humble opinion, there’s nothing Tijerina is going to receive as far as punishment that would be sufficient. I don’t want the government to enact what he deserves, though. I want this individual to suffer all the slings and arrows of cancellation, because if anyone has ever deserved to be shunned by modern society, it’s him. No job outside of third-rate activist groups who pay in food stamps, no social life outside of his left-wing nuthouse, and he’s doomed to always be that one guy they put up with because no one else would.
This is absolutely disgusting, and I’m done trying to consider playing nice with people like this.
Just my opinion, of course, but I stand by it.
Editor’s Note: The radical Left will stop at nothing to enact their extreme gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
