What’s in the Special
PBS’s “Salute to Service 2026: A Veterans Day Celebration” is presented together with the Army Field Band. Kelce, who also plays baritone sax with the Field Band’s Jazz Ambassadors in the special, hosts. Other segments include a tour of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with NFL tackle Alejandro Villanueva, who recalls his time as a cadet, and stories from the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, known as The Old Guard, about its role in defending the Washington, D.C., area.
The Army Field Band released photos in late October of a production supporting the broadcast.
“Batiste playing some of his biggest hits re-imagined alongside our Six-String Soldiers is guaranteed to have you dancing in your seat, “and Jason Kelce wailing on the bari sax with the Jazz Ambassadors is sure to bring a smile to your face,” according to the band.
The Army said the production aimed to “connect with Americans, honor veterans and inspire future generations through music and outreach,” the Alexandria Brief reported. It said the session was taped May 13 at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center at Northern Virginia Community College in Alexandria, Virginia, where Kelce sat in with the Jazz Ambassadors’ saxophone section.

Who Are the Six-String Soldiers?
The Six-String Soldiers are a group within the Army Field Band. The band describes them as a six-member country music group performing Americana and patriotic music, formed in 2015 by active-duty soldiers.
The Army’s account of how the group came together starts with a snowstorm near Boston on Feb. 9, 2015, when members played on a snowbank to entertain snowed-in residents, and a video of it went viral. The Field Band says the group has since appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” “Morning Express with Robin Meade,” “Harry” and Hallmark Channel’s “Home & Family.”
The Army Field Band has been part of the PBS Veterans Day special before. The 2023 edition, hosted by Jon Stewart, featured the band, and it was released Nov. 10, 2023, according to PBS.
How to Watch
The event premieres Friday, Nov. 6, with an encore on some stations. Air times vary by station, so check local PBS listings. The special will also be available through the PBS app.
