Typically, gun owners are gun voters. However, there are exceptions. David Hogg and Alyssa Milano, both notorious gun grabbers, are also admitted gun owners. Still, while the exceptions stand out, the reality is that the Venn diagram of gun owners and gun voters tends to look like a top-down view of a stack of pancakes.
And the face of what a typical gun owner looks like is changing.
Women are changing the face of American firearm ownership and new research confirms personal protection is helping drive the shift.
A September RAND Corporation analysis found women accounted for nearly half of new gun owners in recent years. The General Social Survey data reveals personal firearm ownership among adult women climbed from 10 percent in 2018 to 16 percent in 2024, a not insignificant increase. Women’s share among all firearm owners also increased from 22 percent to 32 percent, while men’s ownership rates remained relatively stable.
The RAND report lays out clearly the impact women gun buyers are having on broader gun ownership demographics.
“Since 2018, women in nearly every category of race, age, marital status, education level, and income have increased their gun ownership,” the report states. “In most of these cases, women’s percentage increases in firearm ownership exceeded those of men belonging to the same group, often by 50 percent or more.”
The shift is playing out at shooting ranges nationwide, including metro Atlanta, where African American women are joining gun clubs, seeking firearm training and exercising their Second Amendment rights in growing numbers.
Women Are Changing the Face of Firearm Ownership
The Bass Reeves Gun Club, the founding chapter of the National African American Gun Association (NAAGA), reports approximately 700 active members, with continued growing interest from Black women. Atlanta’s majority-Black A Girl & A Gun chapter has tripled in size over roughly two years, approaching 200 members.
Now, here’s where it matters.
For years, gun owners were written off as a bunch of angry, scared, old white men who politicians didn’t need to worry too much about, especially Democrat politicians. Instead, women and minorities are where the DNC placed its attention.
And that included gun control as a significant talking point.
Now, though, that view has to change to some degree or another.
When enough women, blacks, and Hispanics own guns and vote for gun rights, the face of the Democrat Party has to change or be left in the dust.
Imagine a world where you can vote based on other issues because neither party is going to come after your guns. It’s easy if you try. That Hell behind us, before us only sky.
Yes, I just made John Lennon less commie. You may praise me or curse me at your leisure.
Anywho, back to the discussion at hand…
Granted, we’ll need more than 16 percent of women and a couple hundred women in a black-majority gun group to do it.
Personally, I think it’s up to the rest of us to encourage more of this. We need to offer to help these folks in any way we can and, when we encounter them, chat about the range, about shooting, and make damn sure that they feel welcomed in our community.
Because if you don’t, they won’t feel the least bit of concern about your gun rights in the least.
Editor’s Note: The radical Left will stop at nothing to enact their extreme gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
